Any words of incouragement?!

Question: Does anyone have any words of incouragement for me? I have to see a Pulmonary Disease Specialist on Thursday. I am really scared. My general practioner said I have the beginning stage of COPD. I have posted questions like this earlier, but I am terrified! Thanks everyone.

I have COPD, I think from my dad smoking 2 packs a day when I was little...Don't worry, the respiratory therapist is there to help you...you might be prescribed an inhaler or nebulizer treatments but it's not that bad...just a minor inconvenience. As far as I know, nobody's ever died from COPD, it just makes it difficult to be athletic. Here's big *HUGZ* from all of us.

dont worry
everything will be fine
okay?
cheers

i'll keep you in my prayers
:)
goood luck

nikki, i'm sorry about all this and i know you are frightened, but i want you to go make yourself a cup of tea and try and calm yourself. this isn't the end of the world, though i know for you, right now, it feels like it!
copd is scary but at this point you have no idea where you are on the scale of 1-10. if you are in the beginning stages there is a lot you can do to slow progress:
you can change your diet, some foods act as triggers.
you can change your lifestyle.
if you smoke - stop.
if someone in your home smokes, then its time for them to stop.
if you have allergies now is the time to really pay attention to them and stay away from things that trigger them.
don't use air fresheners if you can help it, the chemicals in them aren't good for you.
look into getting air filters for your home, especially your bedroom.
give your home a thorough cleaning, dust and such are a huge problem for those of us with respiratory issues. vaccuum and dust daily!!! in fact if you can get rid of wall to wall carpets and go to hard flooring, whether its wood, lino, tiles, laminate -whatever. carpets are the filthiest thing in our homes - no matter how much you clean them or have them professionally cleaned - they are bad for your health!
lots of things you can do nikki and they do help a great deal! your specialist will have a ton of suggestions.
so until you see your specialist try to stay cool - i know its easy for me to say, but you can do it girl. he may prescribe inhalers and/or other meds - use them!
in the meantime try to have a wonderful christmas and i will keep you in my daily prayers. come back and let us know how you are doing!
merry christmas sweetie - stay strong!
