Does anyone have a cure for insomnia with out a medication that knocks me out?!

Question: I don't want to use a heavy medication because I have 3 small kids and want to be able to wake if they are scared or a fire starts. I just want to be able to sleep for 6-7 hours without waking 10 times. Please help!

Melatonin is a hormone made by a part of the brain called the pineal (say: "pin-ee-all") gland. Melatonin may help our bodies know when it's time to go to sleep and when it's time to wake up. Melatonin supplements (in pill form) can also be taken. Natural melatonin is made from the pineal gland of animals. This form could be contaminated with a virus and is not recommended. The synthetic form of melatonin does not have this risk. If you are not sure if your melatonin is natural or synthetic, ask your doctor or pharmacist before taking it.
Adults (18 years and older)
Studies have evaluated 0.5-50 milligrams of melatonin taken nightly by mouth. Research suggests that quick-release melatonin may be more effective than sustained-release formulations for sleep related conditions.
Start small and work up.
See you doctor!

drink some wine before bed.

This may sound silly but it works for both men and women. Masturbation, it releases the endorphins and relaxes the body. You'll fall right asleep after it.

White noise, breathe deeply, reading a book

Sleepy time tea or old fashion warmed milk. Go to bed with a good book and sweet dreams...

You could try Melatonin, its non-habit forming and natural.

Try taking a hot bath right before bed, it takes away stress which can keep you awake. Also, if you have a hectic life, try to sleep 30 mins in the day as being too tired can keep you awake.

This is a very good question! It depends what is causing your insomnia. I've had a sleep disorder for 40 years. A list of things I've tried for sleep is at www.fms-help.com/sleep.htm. Maybe something there will work for you.
