I have a cold the day before a race, what should I do?!

Question: My luck. I am the fastest cross country runner at my school, and I got sick the day before a 2 mile race. My bones are aching and my head hurts a lot. I feel like I can't run. If I don't go to the meet tomorrow I might not get a plaque stating that I got Cross Country of the year, since you have to win all the meets. When I run, all the mucus comes out of my nose and I gag a lot. Whoever has any advice on how to perform well tomorrow, I would greatly appreciate it. Please, I want Cross Country runner of the year so BAD. I know that there is no magic cure to relieve my throat and sinus problems, but if anybody has any good ideas, I would greatly appreciate it.

I think that you should definately run. Just think, all great athletes have competed once or twice when they were ill or injured, but thats what makes them great athletes. I think you should take atleast 2 hot showers a day, sleep as much as you can, and take plenty of meds with out overdosing. It should help. Hope i helped Good Luck!

as bad as it sounds your wanting to run I think you takeing care of your cold is far more importen then a race. and if your haveing all the aches as you say the price you will pay if you do it.
theres times in life when we have to deside whats best for us and mainly when were sick..
I can't say don't run this race this will have to be up to you. no one else.

you need to unclog your senuses.i am a cross country runner too,so i know this works.take a long boiling[not boiling but hot] bath.unions or any boiled vegestable, sniff in.you ahve to get all the goo[snot] out of your nasal cavity.dont blow too hard, bot there shoild be a tube that locks into you throat to your nose.get some pain relivers and cold medicine in you.when you run you should always have a scarf over your nose.dont worry what to do,dont blow your nose.i knoe you will be the big freak with snot running down there chin, but do you want it!?!?!?

Tastes Gross but its a family tradition..
Hot water 6-8 oz and add 2 table spoons of ginger spice, stir and sip, can add 1 teaspoon of honey for taste but I dont notice any difference... do it every few hours it clears you up fast...Also drink an Emergen C should be at most stores
