Hyperglycemia Question!?!
Question: I dont know if I was diagnosed with it- but my doctors office called and said they want me to get an additional blood test.. and on the slip it says "diagnosis hyperglycemia" does this mean i already have it? or they are testing me for it? Is it something that needs to be taken very serious? im 19 5'6 and 110 pounds... id say im pretty healthy..

In order to get insurance companies to pay for most medical tests, the doctors have to give you a "diagnosis" that the insurance company approves, or they company won't pay for the tests.
Unless your doctor told you that you have hyperglycemia, you have nothing to worry about. The test s/he's running is probably one that's commonly run on people with diabetes, and is just being run to rule it out as a possibility.
I have it and it just means you are the opposite of diabetic. This is genetic and not really with how healty you are. Basically, I can't process sugar, which is awesome since I haven't had cookies and ice cream and cake in about 10 years. Don't miss the stuff either. Be careful though because if you get really hungry, you will start to get the shakes and get kinda loopy. So be sure to eat your 6 small meals a day
hyperglycemia is not a diagnosis, all it means is that when you had blood work done, your blood sugar level was high. If you weren't fasting before that last test, then frankly I would expect it to be. But they will now get a fasting test, one where you do not eat for 8 to 12 hours prior to the test to find out if your blood sugar is normal or elevated, and possibly they will get an A1C if they suspect that you have diabetes.
If they're testing your blood again you may have hyperglycemia. Hyperglycemia means that you have more glucose (sugar) than normal in your blood.
They may want to test your fasting blood sugar - meaning they will test your blood after you do not eat for 8 hours or overnight. If you have more glucose in your blood than normal after fasting, this can be a sign that you have diabetes or prediabetes.
Certain medications can also cause high blood sugar levels, like beta blockers, some diuretics, corticosteroids, niacin and some antipsychotic agents.
ya need a fasting and 2hour glucose w/glucose drink given and HA1c....this will settle everything for sure.....
