At what stage of R.A. do you have to be to see a...?!

Question: Rheumatologist? My doctor said I was just diagnosed 1 year ago in February and its in the beginning of stage. That the numbers were low, so I will have to wait, its to soon.

But I am in pain I do have swelling in the joints.
I was just at the doctor he was very shocked to see the swelling in my left ankle. and in stead of "MOTRIN"
he prescribed me "Darvocet" for pain. And to take it "only" when I really need it.
What do I do? When is it at that stage that you need to see a specialist?
thanks! :)

You are already at the stage when you should be under the care of a Rheumatologist! Your' doctor needs a kick in the backside!!!!! Go back immediately and tell him you want to be referred, if he refuses, change doctors. I have R.A. so I know what you are going through sweetheart. Don't delay. Good luck and Merry Christmas.

Any time is a great time to start seeing a rheumatologist. A rheumatologist will be better able to treat your RA than a family doctor. RA is a lifelong condition so the sooner the better, because it can cause permanent damage to your joints.

Go to a rheumotologist now. It is never, ever too soon. Many people have low sed rates and see rhemotologist for treatment. I have Lupus and RA and my sed rates are usually low. As my rheumotologist and GP say - a doctor should listen to the patient not the lab results.

Go see one as soon as possible. There are medications you need to be on to stop damage to your joints.

the treatment is not pain killer that is wrong you should take other drug steroids penicillamine and other disease modifying drugs oxaminoquene so you must go to hospital or specialist to know what stage are you do some investigation like rheumatoid factor and prescribe the right drug combination it is really a very serious disease i saw cases which have very bad deformity in their hand and feet although they were taking drugs also this may not be rheumatoid arthritis it may be gout arthritis because gout tend more to affect ankle and produce severe pain
