I've been on accutane for years, on and off. For the first month, accutane as well as other acne medications seems to make acne worse. After a while, it gets better. While I still haven't fully conquered my acne problems, I can't imagine how scarred my face would be without it.

And no, you should not be on a higher dosage, Accutane is extremely potent and will work eventually if you take the amount you are supposed to take everyday.

It will work, give it a month, it'll stop getting worse and start clearing up. Make sure you take it everyday.

Accutane often gets worse the first month or two before it starts getting better.

It will get a lot worse before it gets better. You will break out bad, its like the drug brings everything to the surface. I had trouble with my skin flaking and burning easily in the sun. It was pretty miserable. But now, over 10 years later I can go for weeks without getting pimples. When I do, I usually only get one at a time.
I did have one long term effect. I get red-eye from wearing my contacts over a long period of time. I think this is because my eyes dried out somewhat. I'm looking to do the eye surgery.

yeah it's normal, don't worry, just take the accutane for the prescribed amount of time, and make sure you take the pills with a meal. the dosage is chosen by your doctor based on your body weight.
