Genital herpes, new diagnosis?!

Question: I haven't found any good message boards for genital herpes. I was recently diagnosed. My soon to be ex husband did not tell me he had it, but anyway, I am breaking out every few weeks. I broke out a few months ago and was diagnosed, the first breakout was the worst, but all have been uncomfortable. Is it true in your opinions that it gets better with time? Should I go on a suppressive medication? I am not currently engaged in sexual activity with anyone.

i have had herpes for 24 years. yes the breakouts in the beginning are the worst. it was then i even had to run bath water so i could sit and pee in it other wise the sting was unbearable. for a good year or 2 i broke out right before my period. as u might discover keeping the area as dry as possible feels better. so clean down there as often as u can during a breakout. remember to wash your hands throughly afterwards so u dont spread the virus if u rub your eyes and face. after i showered i used a blow dryer on a low setting and squat to thoroughly dry myself. my life was so affected i considered ending it all. but it does get better and suppressive meds do work. after 5 years i rarely broke out at all. i havent taken any meds for 20 years. if i feel that tell tale itch i use visualization to prevent a breakout. getting real upset, sick or sunburn could trigger an episode for me. so i avoided those things as best i could. the worst part of it was being betrayed by someone who knowingly passed it on to me. it took me a long time to get over that.

thats too bad, PLEASE dont spread it.

Many people have blisters and sores that come back after the first herpes attack goes away. This is called a recurrence. Usually, the symptoms aren't as bad as they were during the first attack.

Stress, being sick or being tired may start a recurrence. Being in the sun or having your menstrual period may also cause a recurrence. You may know when a recurrence is about to happen because you may feel itching, tingling or pain in the places where you were first infected.

Is there a cure for herpes?
No. But medicines can help. The medicine acyclovir (brand name: Zovirax) can speed up healing and can lessen the pain of herpes for many people.

Acyclovir pills can treat primary or recurrent herpes and can stop or lessen the number of recurrences. Acyclovir also comes in a cream to put on sores during the primary stage or during recurrences.

Famciclovir (brand name: Famvir) and valacyclovir (brand name: Valtrex) are other medicines used to treat recurrent genital herpes and for prevention of recurrences.

Herpes simplex viruses (human herpesviruses 1 and 2) commonly cause recurrent infection affecting the skin, mouth, lips, eyes, and genitals. Common severe infections include encephalitis, meningitis, neonatal herpes, and, in immunocompromised patients, disseminated infection. Mucocutaneous infections cause clusters of small painful vesicles on an erythematous base. Diagnosis is clinical; laboratory confirmation by culture, PCR, direct immunofluorescence, or serology can be performed. Treatment is symptomatic; antiviral therapy with acyclovir, valacyclovir, or famciclovir is helpful for severe infections and, if begun early, in recurrent or primary infections.

i have been diagnosed 4 months ago with genital herpes and the first two outbreaks were the worst, then i guess over time u get used to having the outbeaks so they are not as bad. i supose its different for every one with genital herpes. i'm on supressive medication and have found that it can even stop an outbreak if i take it at the first sign of one. suppressive meds may help u out i would talk to a doctor or gyno about your outbreaks and meds and see which one would be best for u. also take some vitamines to boost your immune system like vitamine C and Bcomplex, as well as omega 3-6-9. if your immune system is stronger then u should have less outbreaks as well. i haven't had an outbreak since october.
good luck and be healthy.
