"The purpose of screening mammography is breast cancer detection. A screening test, by definition, is used for patients without any signs or symptoms, in order to detect disease as early as possible. Many studies have shown that having regular mammograms increases a woman's chances of finding breast cancer in an early stage, when it is more likely to be curable. It has been estimated that a mammogram may find a cancer as much as two or three years before it can be felt."

Absolutely, that's why women are encouraged to get them beginning at age 40 even if they don't feel any lumps or have any symptoms. And breast cancer is more likely to be cured when caught early, so it's an excellent idea to follow the recommendations on mammograms!

absolutely...routine mammos are the best method of screening for and early detection of breast cancer

YES they are very important to get every year. If you find a lump then make an appointment imediatly. My mother and grandmother both had breast cancer and it was found early so they are both doing great now.
