Can I get sick from someone at work who coughs?!

Question: This has been going on for more than 2 weeks. This person is under doctor's care and is taking prescription medicine. She used up all her sick days so unfortunately everyone around her has to listen to her constant hacking. By the end of the day I have such a headach listening to it. I have offered cough drops and water. When she stops by our desks, she does not cover her mouth when she coughs. Are we going to be sick for Christmas?

She's probably just dealing with the left over phlem and mucous in her throat or lungs. Don't be a prude...shes sick, probably cant afford to just stay home and cough. Just don't shake her hand and pick your nose.

There is a possibility. Tell her to cover her mouth or stay away and do not share a phone with her.

She sucks.

Just stay away from her. Or buy a gas mask and ear defenders :)

Ask her to please cover her mouth when she coughs. That is a common courtesy. Depending on what she has and if the antibiotics have kicked in or not. Tell her hot tea with honey. Hopefully, you will not be sick for Christmas. But if what she has is contagious, you could catch whatever she has. It is very frustrating, I know.

Good Luck

Of course you may become infected. Start evasive actions now- extra vitamins, echinacea, airborne, washing your hands more often, and using hand sanitizer as well as lysol.

Since this is an issue of concern, management can require her to obtain a work release from her doctor- something stating that she is not contagious.

Take your concerns as a group of employees to your human resources director.

Depending on what she has. Its not a bad idea to take some precautions once you get home, like using those new dietary supplements called Airborne, Buy her a box of tissues and place it on her desk, some people just don't get the hint when there spreading germs all around everybody else. Get some wipes to clean around your desk, and wash your hands a lot. I do that all the time when some around me is sick. Better to be prepared than sick later.

Charming situation.

Let's hope she isn't being treated for tuberculosis.
