If a nurse cant draw blood from your arm or hand where else does she go to find !

Question: they can try your neck to look for an EJ (external jugular) or sometimes they can try a vein in your ankle. if they cannot do it, usually the doctor has to put in a CVC (central venous catheter), basically a larger IV into your neck vein, the vein below your collar bone or into your groin vein.

once again it's vein, not vain. And if she can't draw your blood, ask for another nurse with greater skill.

Anywhere there is a vein. Arms, legs, scalp, neck...wherever one is available.

Perhaps, the vein behind your knee.
Why can't the nurse draw blood? Have your veins collapsed? :(

Generally if they can't find veins in the usual places they get help. Using other veins in the neck (at some hospitals by protocol even the feet) etc require someone with higher education (NP, PA, MD). Keep in mind, that sometimes just a different eye & experience will find a hand or an arm vein that wasn't there for the other person.

your butt. i think there are a lot of veins there. i am a nurse.
