Benadryl is safe as long as you follow the correct dosage according to there weight. For an adult it is 50mg max per day. Children are usually 25 mg but it is based on their weight so read the label. If you son is not allergic to honey go to the local health food store and ask for honey made from bees in your area. Because the bees pollented the local flora and fauna it works well with the local allergens your son is exposed to. Here are some good tips on reducing the allergens until the docs can figure out what is causing it. Buy hepa filters and place them on or just inside the air vents in your home. Vacuum often using a hepa filter vac. Wash all pillows, sheets and etc. at least once a week. DUST, dust, dust using a damp cloth, get your air ducts cleaned. A lot of people are allergic to the fecal matter left behind from the dust mites. But try the honey it really does work. I have used it for years with my kids and they haven't any problems with allergies since then. They usually take a few spoons everyday.

i am 20 yrs. old, and i have suffered from hives ever since i can remember. yes, giving your son benadryl is appropriate, just watch the amount given. If you are feeding him pills, i would recommend you giving him only 1 pill. I am sure you already know that benadryl will not last forever. As long as you follow the recommended dosage it should be fine. I would recommend watching to make sure they don't get worse. I was given benedryl for hives and they actually got worse and the doctor said I was actually reacting or allergic to the benedryl. It would be a good idea to see a doctor and see if you can figure out what is causing it.
