My mother has had this horrible cough for years. Does anyone have any remedies t!

Question: She's coughed to be exact 14 years even when giving birth to me. She's afraid to get an examine and we've been telling her for years to go. She's afraid its cancer, but until she goes we'll never know. She says before she goes to the doctor she'd like to try some remedies that have worked for people, she's tried cough medicine and lemon with honey. Anyone have any remedies? Her cough gets really bad during the winter, and were going out of our minds hearing her every day, and while she coughs at times she forces herself to vomit so she can stop. We'd like to try to see if any of these will work before seeing a doctor. Thanks!

If your mother had lung cancer she would know it. It sound like to me that your mother has COPD chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. I'm a Respiratory Therapist and I see this everyday. The fact that it gets worse in winter tells me she has Chronic Bronchitis or cold weather induced asthma attaches. Does she smoke or live with someone who does? If not it's still COPD tell her to go to the doctor. He'll give her some inhaled steroids and inhaled bronchodilators. This is very normal and she shouldn't be afraid to visit the doctor. All she will get is BETTER. I hope this helps your mother and you out. Thanks ang God Bless.

Okay there are different reasons for a bad cough. If she's a smoker you can have a cough. Also she could have asthma, that is real bad cough with shortness of breath. One of the hand I've had adult croup, real bad cough with that also, but I also had a fever. That only a couple of reasons why are real bad cough. Check out the website. Has allot of things there. Don't worry so much your mom will be fine, but do try to convince her to see doctor or go to free clinic. GOOD LUCK

She should really go to see a doctor. It can be something minor or it can be something major but after this long I don't believe any home remedy will help until they diagnose what is causing her to cough. It can be irritants in the air or allergies or can be cancer but the only person that can diagnose will be the doctor. One thing to consider if she doesn't get it checked and she keeps vomiting. She can cause irreversible damage to her throat or even burn a hole through it and she will have to have surgery to repair it.

Well, I'm no doctor, but if she had cancer, it probably would have killed her within the 14 year span, especially if left untreated. It's more likely that she has asthma or some other chronic respiratory disease. She should get it checked out. If left untreated, some things could get worse. Tell her to just bite the bullet and get everything checked out. She is already living in fear of what it might be. If it is something bad, she'll merely be living in fear of what it is. Chances are, though, it is something that can be easily fixed with medication. Good luck to you and her!

Edit: Also, I have asthma. It usually helps me to take a hot bath when I have a coughing spell. I told my doctor this, and she says it is probably because of the warm moist air. In any case, it is very relaxing.
