I have had bells palsy since May 2007.

Yes it will get better...
I have regained about 85 percent of my movement back. I still have some small things that are taking their time about resolving.

Massage can be helpful as well as warm moist heat. ( try a hot water bottle) Icing the face was not recommended. Many believe that cold can actually bring on a Bells Palsy episode.

Most people see a good bit of improvement from about 2 weeks to a month. Something I thought I might pass along is vitamin B-12 has been found to help in the healing of the facial nerves. I highly recommend taking the B-12 shots or getting some B-12 vitamins. If steroids are given stress to your friend to take them. This will help with the inflammation and speed healing of the nerves along.

Ive written a few article that you and/or your friend may find helpful. One offers some helpful suggestions for the hurdles many Bells Palsy sufferers face in their daily life.

I hope your friend gets better quickly. Ill cross my fingers for them. :-)

Bell's Palsy is a unilateral paralysis of the face, which the cause is unknown. It is treated by temporary patching the eye on the affected side and using methylcellulose eye drops. Prednisone seems to be effective in decompressing facial nerves before denervation can occur..

I've known two people that have gone through that. The first one went a year and a half kinda looking droopy on one side before things started to get back to normal and the other was as normal as he looks within a year. The second one is a local TV personality and he was also my ball coach at the time. He really made it work for him since he felt that he was probably going to look like that for at least a year so he'd make the odd snide comment about how stupid the rest of us looked and delt with it with a good sence of humour.

Bells Palsy sucks and seems to last a while, but these guys didn't have any adverse health affects and don't show any signs of having gone through it. They're as handsome as they believed they were before hand. (-:

it does get better so they say.. what she should is get one of those massages @ walgreens or w/e and put it on her face.. ice the eye so the swelling goes down.. rest,rest,rest..stay on the antibiotics and if it doesnt progress by the end of the medicine give it a day and send them back to the doctor.. it might actually take a week after teh medicine is done.. be patient.. Good Luck..and God Bless
