Am I at risk for cancer??!

Question: I don't have a family history of cancer except for my uncle by marriage. I live in a region with one of the highest amount of refineries in the nation. Many people I know who live here get cancer: my english teacher, my 3rd grade teacher, my grandpa, my uncle, my best friends's dad and a number of people in my Church. I am very concerned about my risks. My insurance is also not that great. Also my mom has smoked all her life and I have had to breathe in alot of second hand smoke during my childhood. I am a junior in high school by the way. I know the common cancers for teens are lymphoma and brain cancer. Can you also give me advice as to what signs i would need to look for if cancer was present? Sorry I'm a worrier and a major hypochondriac! Thanks for your answers. Merry Christmas!!

Keep your visits to the Doc current. Ask questions if you have any problems that bother you about your physicals. Don't smoke. Study hard and make good grades. What do you want to do after you go to college. What will your major be. Focus on the things that will make you a better person and stop worrying so much...loligo1@yahoo.com

Everyone is a risk for cancer. The only ones immune are the dead. With all the pollution in the air, and the magnetic waves in the environment from radio transmissions [including cell phones], not one is spared from risk.

you don't get cancer based on people you know, but if it's carried in your family genes! but if you're inhaling the second hand smoke from your mother, then you could be at risk.

hi
