Help, Please?!

Question: So, I've had an eating disorder (bulimia) for a year now. I'm sort of getting help...but my psychiatrist tells me I have to want to help myself before she can. I want to be normal and eat out with my family. I'm just freaked out. I don't want to gain it all back...it would seem like I wasted my time. To me, at least. I was thinking, if I started out eating healthy...would I gain any weight? Please, help. I made this account so I can ask this question. No mean answers, please.

It depends on what your body weight should be! Find out what that should be if you don't know. Yes, you may gain some weight back, but it depends on what you are eating and how you are exercising....make sure that you aren't under weight...everyone's body has an ideal weight. A safer way of dieting is watching your caloric intake and exercising...lots of water too. You should see a doctor as well to discuss this. Bulimia is not a joke! It is very serious! SEE A NUTRITIONIST AND YOUR PRIMARY CARE PHYSICIAN SOON.

It seems that if you sought out help, you are wanting to help yourself. Bulemia is a mental disorder, and thus you have to train yourself to think newly about eating. Your DR. should help you with this. If you dont think you are getting the support you need from her, get a second opinion so you will feel better.

In a way, your psychiatrist is right. You have to understand that what you have is a disease and you have to take the first step and realize that. There are many bulimics that are not skinny, but not fat either. It really depends on if you have a touch of anorexia as well. Remember, there are "lifestyles", not "diets" you can follow in which you can maintain a healthy weight. With bulemia, you are losing the important nutrients and it is so hard on the heart, the teeth, the kidneys, shall I go on? I would really recommend inpatient therapy. But the cold hard fact remains, if you reject the help it is not going to work. Should you need any further help or just someone to maybe support you, please do not hesitate to email me.

Bulimia nervosa is recurrent episodes of binge eating followed by self-induced vomiting, laxative or diuretic abuse, vigorous exercise, or fasting. Diagnosis is based on history and examination. Treatment is with psychotherapy and SSRIs, especially fluoxetine.

Eating healthy food and getting exercise will be great for you!! You will not gain weight by eating healthy...and exercise will help you physically and mentally also. Bulimia has left you thin but unhealthy...try making a goal to eat healthy ( educate yourself as to what that means though) and build some muscle...tone..Ask your doctor to send you to a dietitian. You may be thin from the past year but you are not healthy. concentrate on the healthy lifestyle and not the "thin" thing! Good luck!!!! I will be rooting for you.
