Hi, I haven't suffered from claustrophobia but I have suffered from other fears such as social phobia. The best way to deal with the fear is to stop thinking about it all the time. Giving too much importance to the fear will only give it power! Have you hear of the laws of attraction that were introduced by the book called "The Secret"? If not, I will give you a brief summary:

Basically the law of attraction is centered around the idea that thoughts become action, and what you think about most you attract into your life. Of cource, you have to recognize the fact that you have a problem, however you don't have to think about the problem all the time. Thinking about the problem a lot, can frustrate you, tire you, and make you more anxious.

Also, you have to imagine yourself facing your fear, and always, always, make sure that you have a positive outcome in mind. By continously centering on the positive, not the negative, you bring in more positive things into your life.

For ex. You may suffer panick attacks or fears of having panick attacks in trains, buses, or airplanes. If this is the case, try imagining yourself in a train, bus, or airplane. However, you are not nervous. You are calm. Everything and everyone around you reassures you that you are safe.

Having these positive thoughts can only make you feel better and increase your confort.Try it! This has helped me face my social phobia and my anxities. I hope this helps.

It's tough, and hard to do alone. I reccomend seeing a therapist. Don't worry about it too bad, unless it's actually impacting your life significantly.

Personally, you should go see a psychologist or counselor, they have numerous ways to help you..

P.s.
I suffer for this for a long time, saw a professional for a while, got rid of it..You will be fine

go into a dark closet. you'll know its a small space but you can't actually see the walls.

when I get an MRI test, I have to use the open machine and still take valuim.

you could stay out of small rooms, or maybe stay inside a small closed room for a long time until you get over it

No. It's a fear of being trapped in tight closed spaces. It's not something you can cure (unless you get over the fear). I know, cause I'm claustrophobic.

You don't. You live with the fact that you know you have it, and that's it. When you start feeling uncomfortable in a clothed room, just realize what is going on, and deal with it. If you can't accept that your mind is telling your body things that are not true, and you must run from the room, understand that too. Just live with it, one way or the other.

You may not be able to. You may have to seek help from a counselor or other professional help. Good Luck.

I am also the same claustrophobia, Why ?

Yes, like any phobia. You test it slowly while able to leave the place where you are testing yourself. Like the bathroom with the door partially shut. From that you try entering a closet with the door open. As you progress you make the door a little more shut and then more. Take your time and be proud that you are helping yourself. Keep testing yourself in places that frighten you, knowing all along that YOU are in control and can exit anytime. I learned this technique from the woman's tv
show called "Starting Over." That show was wonderful.

I used to be very claustrophobic. Especially on airplanes. What helped me was to relax. Do breathing exercises, pray and tell myself I am not afraid. Claustrophobia is really another form of fear. It can also cause panic attacks. Believe me I know from experience. What also helped me on the airplane was to sit by a window and star out of it. I also would turn on the air circulation button proved above my seating area. There are many reasons why people experience this feeling. The list is too long to share in this answer. Prayer was the biggest thing to help me get over it.

Consult a physician. If he/she considers you truly claustrophobic, you can be referred to a psychologist, psychiatrist, or mental health facility. People don't "get over" claustrophobia: They get treatment.

Alcoholics don't "get over" being alcoholics, they get treatment.

Why bother. Get a bigger house.

I have progressive claustrophobia--it gets worse and worse. I have to live in a mansion now, but it's not so bad.
