What can cause trouble breathing through the nose?!

Question: I have always had difficulty breathing through my nose either one side or the other and have been plagued by sneezing fits that last for days on end. More often than not it's on one side of the nose and it gets quite annoying trying to breathe out of it and eating is especially difficult since I can't breathe through my nose while I chew. I've tried blowing my nose vigorously to no avail and usually ending in another sneezing fit which usually last about three days sneezing every 45 sec min and up to 3 min. I know of deviated septum's causing difficulty breathing in one side but they have to be repaired surgically. I'm going to stop before I rattle on. Thanks in Advance. Peace .\/,,

When it switches from one nostril to another nostril, it's not a deviated septum, it's called Turbinate Dysfunction or enlarged turbinates. It can be from allergic or non-allergic rhinitis or other reasons. I would ask your doctor for a steroid nasal spray like flonase and try that for at least a month to see if it helps. If that doesn't work, go to an ear, nose and throat specialist. He can do things like freeze, burn or use radiowaves to reduce the inflamation in your nose. If that doesn't work, then lastly there is surgery. It's always best to see a specialist to make sure its not deviated or twisted.

allergies....maybe sinus infection????

Yep, deviated septum, or better yet, polyps. I had both and yes, had them surgically removed. it was an outpatient procedure and took about an hour. I felt better a day or so later. No big :)

Maybe some hairs in your nose or a big azz buger. lol lol

you could have sinusitis or allergies.

either way, try a neti pot. they're sold at health food stores (i've seen them at walmart too). you put salt water in the pot and then pour the salt water in one nostril while holding your head over the sink so the water can run through the sinuses and out the other nostril. do that once or twice a day. i've been doing it for about six months and i notice a huge difference. this time last year, i had bad colds and terrible sinus headaches. this year, i feel great and can breathe!

if that doesn't help, see a doctor. if you have a deviated septum, you might need surgery.
