What makes Singulair work better at night?!

Question: The airways and breathing is controlled by brain center/nervous system. At night breathing is quieter and airways seems more relaxed. This is why cough and airway narrowing gets worse at night. Singulair antiinflamatory action seems to works better at night.

Hi,

It doesn't necessarily work BETTER at night. The reason they have asthmatics take it at bedtime, is they predict that most asthmatics have MORE symptoms at 4AM not 4PM. For me, when I was on Singulair (which was several years), I finally started to take it in the morning, as I had problems around 4 PM when it was wearing off....that had always been my bad time (the cooler evening air, and the molds). For allergies, they say you can take it any time of day or night.

Currently, I take Accolate, which is SIMILAR to Singulair, but, twice a day. The one good thing about this, is I don't have as much of a "dip" in the amount of medication from it being a 24 hour dose, since this is twice a day. My asthma doesn't flair up at 4 pm or 4 am....it is consistant (the dose) in my body. I switched when I had to pay for the medication myself, as my insurance wouldnt cover either.....Accolate was cheaper. BUT, funny, now Singulair is cheaper on a co-pay with insurance. so, I may switch back.

Both give me ODD dreams....vivid. lol

not sure if this is the answer you were looking for.

Montelukast is used to prevent difficulty breathing, chest tightness, wheezing and coughing caused by asthma. Montelukast is also used to prevent bronchospasm (breathing difficulties) during exercise. Montelukast is also used to treat the symptoms of seasonal (occurs only at certain times of the year), and perennial (occurs all year round) allergic rhinitis (a condition associated with sneezing and stuffy, runny or itchy nose). Montelukast is in a class of medications called leukotriene receptor antagonists (LTRAs). It works by blocking the action of substances in the body that cause the symptoms of asthma and allergic rhinitis.
Please see the web pages for more details on Montelukast (generic name) Singulair (brand name).
