Is it possible?!

Question: How long would it take for C-Dif to show up in a Two year old white male? My Son is on Omnicef for Four days now and for the last two to three days he has had a BM three to four times a day. This isnt normal for him. It is a soft mucous like BM still dark in color. Is it possible for him to have developed C-Dif already? Someone with Medical background please reply promptly before I over react and sit in an emergency room for hours upon hours. Thanks

C-Diff comes from using multiple antibiotics in a short period of time. If he's having several BM's it's because the antibiotic is killing the normal flora in his stomach. Normal Flora is bacteria that normally lives inside of your body, this case the stomach. When you take antibiotics it kills both bad and good bacteria and sometimes causes a condition called sterile gut. This means he's lost the good bacteria also. The easiest way of fixing this is eating yogurt. This will cause the normal bacteria to restore its self faster. I would recommend you giving him lots of fluids. Pedilite is a great source it has essential electrolytes that his body needs. If he wont eat yogurt try the children's ensure it tastes like a milkshake and he may like this better. I wouldn't suspect C-Diff at all right now. If the yogurt and Children's Pedilite don't work, I would take him to the doctor. He could get very dehydrated and this is way worse then any C-Diff. I hope your son feels better soon, thanks and God Bless.
