Wow, three packs a day!!! You should be concerned. She is an addict. She will quit only if she really wants to quit.

A few facts that won't help, because addicts won't listen to logic. Each cigarette shortens a a life by 5 minutes. She is shortening her life by 5 hours every day. Since there is only 24 hrs in a day, she is shortening her life by 20%.

Perhaps emotions will help. I wonder if she realizes that by the time you are old enough to have her grandchildren, she'll be dead. Her choice: cigarettes or your child.

A personal note: My mother passed when I was 12. Breast Cancer. She did not smoke. But sh*t happens. The fallout from that has been... I didn't go to college because I did not get the encouragement from my father that my mother would have provided. Now, I have a decent job, but feel very unfulfilled.

I don't remember her voice.

Does she want that fate for you and your siblings?

It is excellent that you see that smoking is wrong. Unfortunately, you will see, up close, what the warnings on the cigarette package are about.

Move out and leave her be.

Run away for a day or go to a friends house and tell your friends mom your mom keeps smoking and she won't stop and it scares you and that your mom said you could stay there even though she didn't.

u should tell your grandma or grandpa (mom or dad) of your mom

i know what you mean.three of my aunts smoke. and my grandpa. but, the best solution to do is steal all her cigarettes and throw it at the bottom of your trash bag.but didnt she go to dare class?? which stands for drug abuse resist education?? well,i guess she didnt listen. just tell her that one little cigarette has over 100 poisons in it.its true.

Try to get her some European cigs. They all have pictures of diseased tissue on them. That might just work.

buy an air cleaner and stay in your room. Open the top of the bathroom window about 1/2 inch. You might try lighting one up yourself- don't smoke it- just have it lit in your hand and sit next to Mum.
It's an addiction and she may finally kick the habit but nagging her will not help.

there is not that much you can do. think about living with your dad or grandma if she won't stop. addiction is a terrible thing. she has to want to quit and it's really hard.

tell her you're sick of her smoking and would like her to go with you to a counseling service/ that it bothers you that much

well when shes older it will take 60% of her energy just to breath..and tell her how much that will suck it will be hard to even walk around without gagging! I have seen it

Why not use those fourth of july fireworks and put them in the cigerettes? It'll make her smoke less often - or make her smoke outside everytime she wants a puff of two.

if she won't stop -- and she won't if she's up to 3 packs a day -- then move out. it will remove you from her 2nd hand smoke, which is extremely bad for you, and show her that you are a responsible adult. From experience, i can say that 2nd hand smoke IS harmful. so move out, or have HER move out.

Your Mother is slowly killing you. This post pisses me off. My Aunt just passed away with lung cancer (she did not smoke) because my Uncle smoked in the house. The doctor told her this is why she got the cancer, second hand smoke is very dangerous. Tell your mother it was a very painful awful death that there is no cure only if found very early. It is very selfish of her to do this.

I feel for you. Have you told her how worried you are about her health? My kids just wouldn't leave me alone about my smoking, so with their prodding I decided to quit before my last birthday. Point is; carefully challenge her to quit, tell her how worried you are about her health (my mother was killed by lung cancer due to smoking), tell her how it bothers you to breathe around her, but most importantly, make sure she knows your suggestions are only because you love her with all of your heart. By the way I haven't smoked for 1 year and 1 month, She CAN do it!!!

How about staying at your grandma's home? She is addicted to cigarettes and needs help to get off. The problem is that she has to make the decision to quit. It is a tough one. I wish you luck.
