Friend Kissed a Girl Who has Herpes- he's freaking out. Can you catch Herpes!

Question: Okay, here's the deal-
My buddy started making out with a girl, she stops him before things get to far (he swears nothing below the belt had happened- JUST kissing) and told him she has Herpes and that she needed to tell him before they had sex.
He somehow bowed out, but proceeded to freak out the rest of the night, before crashing on my couch.

Anybody with Herpes able to tell me what the risk is for him?
She told him she hasn't had an outbreak in two years, and even then it was "down below."

I don't know much, but isn't it okay to kiss a person who is Herpes positive if they aren't in the middle of an outbreak?

I honestly have no clue and am searching the internet while he sleeps so i can come up with something in case he is a fruitcake about this when he gets up.

Any help?

If she just had genital herpes, and they only kissed, there is NO CHANCE WHATSOEVER that he could get genital or oral herpes.

Genital herpes can only be caught through contact with the genitals of an infected person - and to develop genital herpes yourself, that contact needs to be their genitals to your genitals. If you give them oral sex there is a minute risk of catching a cold sore, but genital herpes is a lot harder to catch in general than people seem to think.

If he is so scared of herpes, he should remember that 8 out of 10 girls he kisses will have oral herpes - cold sores - so catching them through kissing someone is a bigger posibility. And one in four women have genital herpes - most don't know they are infected.

I feel sorry for the poor girl. She was trying to do the right thing. He must have made her feel dreadful.

herpes in not curable so you guys better think of something

if it is oral herpes, then there is a possibility. but if the girl has genital herpes, then her mouth is not infected. it could not be transmitted. it would also depend if your friend has a mouth sore or something which increases the transmission rate. and lastly, dont believe the guy above me, there are antibiotics for herpes.

if he performed oral sex he has a good chance

No he is SAFE! He should be glad she told him before he did get below the belt. Many people don't bother. Genital herpes is NOT curable. It lies dormant and then outbreaks occur. The person usually knows when an outbreak is on the way.

u can't get genital herpes from kissing someone on the mouth, unless they were kissed on their privates by her and they had a cold sore. but oral herpes (cold sores) can be spread by kissing and oral sex. it is not ok to kiss a person with oral herpes while they have a cold sore. its also not ok to have sex of any kind with a person who has a genital herpes outbreak.

DO NOT LISTEN TO EMJAY.THERE IS NO CURE FOR HERPES.ANTIBIOTICS---WHAT A LAUGH.THE FREE HEALTH CLINIC CAN TELL YOU THERE IS NO CURE.YOU CARRY IT LIKE LUGGAGE FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE.

To the point -if she had no visible cold sore on the lips then he has a very low risk of even having oral herpes. It is spread through skin to skin contact! And even at that most people have cold sores at some point. If he is telling the truth, he has nothing to worry about. He was lucky to be making out with a decent girl who just happened to be victim of herpes.

Yes, Herpes is a viral infection and can be caught via kissing. There is no cure. Be careful
