Accutane.....?!

Question: i was thinking of taking it. i have already talked about it with my dermatologist. we're thinking of starting treatment in february. however, i am being prescribed birth control in less than 2 weeks, so should i just wait 1-2 months to see if my acne clears up with the birth control? my acne is mild, my skin is constantly oily. i hate it! i am also afraid of taking accutane because of the side effects. has anybody taken this and did you experience any side effects?

it's called Roaccutane. i'm taking atm. been on it for quite a while. i had moderate to sever acne. it is now mostly gone and i have a bit of scaring but im not worried. the symptoms mainly felt are some dry skin and chapped lips. you MAY get dry lips and some get the occasional nose bleed. i have only had dry lips and i have the occasional eye drop. they say it causes muscle soreness so dont overdo exercise. i go the gym everyday and im fine. the only thing is wen u first start it gets worse but then quickly subsides.. its how it works.
u should definately do it. . i shouldv done it earlier :(

u just cant be pregnant while taking it

Both of my sons used Accutane and probably the worst side effects were the dry, red chapped lips. They used a million different things that helped some, but someone recommended Dr. Smith's diaper rash ointment and they used that and it worked the best. The dry skin is the next worst side effect. You have to use Vaseline sometimes after your shower to keep the moisture in your skin to keep it from getting dry and scaly. Both of the boys said it was worth it.

Yes, I took accutane years ago. It was for a skin condition other than acne, and it failed miserably. Accutane is a very powerful and destructive drug on your entire body. It can cause severe liver problems as well as serious dry skin and eye/vision problems. It should never be taken by someone with even the remote chance of becoming pregnant. Severe, and I mean severe side effects and birth defects are caused by its use! If your acne is mild as you say, just wash with a harsher soap to get rid of your oily skin and avoid Accutane like the plague! I wish I had!
