Why when fever go down iget the chills?!

Im not sure, but I have had a high fever before. And, everytime I'd know it will go down I'd know because i got the chills. I'm not sure but i know its natural when you have a fever of that temperature. If you're temperature goes up you'll most likely get hot and sweaty and the chills will go away.
