Could I have a bacterial infection, give it to someone, then get the same infect!

Question: I'm a microbiologist and the correct anser is yes, you can get reinfected with a bacterial infection that you hve previously had. What the other responders have mentioned is pretty much reserved for viral infections but even then it isn't written in stone. Bacterial infections require antibiotic treatment to get rid of them and after the course of treatment you can become reinfected. Also likely, if you find yourself with the same infection over and over again is treatment failure. Perhaps the antibiotic you have been prescribed is either not the correct one or is of the type that is bacteriostatic as opposed to bacteriacidal.

  • You cannot get the EXACT same infection back - your T-cells have copied that particular bacteria into memory, thus making you immune to it. However, it is entirely possible for the bacteria to have morphed into a slightly different version of itself while incubating in the other person, and you could've caught that from them.

Once a bacterial infection is cured, the body become resistant proof. So now to get the same infection back is hardly possible.
