Is it possible that some mental illnesses could be caused from vision problems?!

Question: I know some people who can't focus on a subject or project because contacts or cataract vision has taken their attention away. I also know that if one cataract is removed and you try to see with both eyes you won't be able to stand up you'll be too dizzy because the eyes are seeing two different things. I also know that when you get glasses what you see is smaller than it really is, and I know that when you get cataract implants what you used to see will now be a little larger and there is an adjustment period you have to go thru. So if seeing is so important to communicating and thinking, shouldn't people with mental problems, or even with dementia or alzheimers, have their vision tested to see if the vision is what's causing the problem? What do you think?

No that doesn't make sence. Dementia and Alzheimers is the detoriation of the brain...Mental illnesses are disorders. There based on chemical inbalances. Your eyes don't have much to do with it other then it might make the symptoms of the disorder worse as poor vision can be frustrating.

pretty thin connection there, I doubt it is the case. Severe mental disabilities have way more causes than poor vision, or visual changes...if that were the case, half the people on the planet would be mental cases.

no.

Mental problems and visual problems are two different kinds of beasts. And sometimes mental problems are associated with hallucinations, for instance.

But sometimes a kid who in fact has visual problems is labeled as 'retarded' because he simply can't see to focus on his studies.

Dementias are another problem again, and are more often than not the result of damage directly to the brain.

Hell, yes! I keep telling my wife that this Pink Elephant that lives in the wood shed is just a vision problem!
