Anytime you have swelling, take an anti-inflammatory medication: aspirin, tylenol, whatever, and force fluids. Just drink and drink. The body, as you well know, is mostly water, and the more you hydrate yourself, the more efficiently your body can move its disease-fighting components into place, and the more effectively you can get rid of the products of the infection. I always take a couple of grams (2,000 mg) of vitamin C. Sometimes it works miracles and the cold just vanishes. But whether it works this time like a miracle or not, it supports your immune system and helps it work more efficiently. If you have a sore throat, gargle with salt water -- a couple of tsp of table salt dissolved completely into a glass of warm water, and gargle, gargle, gargle, then finish with Listerine. And crawl into bed and sleep as much as you can.
