What kind of tests are done to test for Chlmydia or Gonorrhea?!

Question: I think I may have gotten one of these two from a sex partner, I am going to get tested but am TERRIFIED of needles. Would love for the tests to be non-blood oriented if possible. Thanks for any help.

You are in luck, sort of. Chlamydia and gonorrhea are not diagnosed via blood test. To diagnose it the doc will take a swab of the urethra for a male and the cervix for a female (this is why I say sort of lucky- it is uncomfortable but not a needle) which is then sent for testing.
Good luck!

The needle is the easy way. You will never forget a condom again. Good luck.

Both Chlamydia and Gonorrhea can be detected by a urine test or cervical smear- neither involves needles.

But a general rule of thumb for STDs is that if you find one, you test for all the others- some of which will involve blood draws.

1. Go to: "Research your answer" on your question page. 2. Type in: How do you test for Chlymdia and Gonorrhea? 3. It MAY ask you to confirm that's the question that you want answered. If so, just click it again. Go to #1. Chlymdia, as you see, will come up first. Go under "Tests" at the top. Find Gonorrhea. There are the tests details for it. Merry Christmas, and try not to worry.

There is every chance that you will not have to endure a needle, even if you are infected. I shall explain briefly - chlamydia and gonorrhoea are sexually transmitted diseases. Gonorrhoea is caused by a bacterium called Neisseria Gonorrhoeae, which is a bacterial infection. It is sexually transmitted and can infect the cervix, urethra, rectum, anus and throat. An examination of your genital area is carried out by a doctor or a nurse. Samples are taken, using a cotton-wool or spongy swab, from any places which may be infected - the cervix, urethra, anus or throat. Samples taken during the examination are looked at under a microscope to check for gonorrhoea infection. In some clinics, the result is available immediately. A second sample is sent to a laboratory for testing, the result of which is available usually within one week. Treatment is easy and essential. You will be given an antibiotic in tablet, liquid or injection form. Chlamydia is caused by bacteria called chlamydia trachomatis. Chlamydia is the most common treatable bacterial sexually transmitted infection. It can cause serious problems later in life if it is not treated. Chlamydia infects the cervix in women. The urethra, rectum and eyes can be infected in both sexes. Occasionally chlamydia lives in other parts of the body, including the throat, lungs and liver. The same type of samples are taken as those for gonorrhoea. There is also a test that looks for the presence of the bacteria chlamydia trachomatis and neisseria gonorrhoeae in urine. It is important that you test for both these STD
