There are two types of herpes, type 1 and 2. The oral and the genital type.

Yes you can 'export' the oral type to your or someone else's genitals. That does not make it genital herpes, it makes it oral herpes on the genitals. Or opposite, genital herpes in the mouth. The virus doesn't change type.

Now, interesting to know, is that the herpes type that is residing at the 'wrong place' (oral on the genitals or vice versa) is less severe/persistant and mostly has only one major outbreak in that area after which it generally (exception possible) does not come back there.

The herpes type at the correct spot (genital type on genitals, oral in the mouth/lips) generally can cause outbreaks the rest of your life when your imune system is low, and those outbreaks would be more severe and persistant.

Also note the 'cross-spreading' (oral to genital, genital to oral) is less likely, and more difficult to achieve than 'normal' oral to oral or genital to genital infection, but it is possible.

Yes, you can get it from someone who has it on their mouth.

absolutely you can. a visible chancer may be there, but also may not and the virus could still be present

It is possiable. The virus can be transmitted from oral to genital regions and vice versa during oral sex.

My doctor took a blood test specifically checking for herpes and learned that I have both types - 1 & 2. I also believe that you can have a suspected sore or lesion swabbed and tested.

Yes you can and will. If you want to be 100% safe keep your mouth off the poles and keep the pole out of the hole until you get married.
