Eczema problem?!

Question: I have suddenly had a flare up of eczema over the last 3 months which is now making my life a misery! I am prone to eczema but havnt suffered for 12 months. Since being 6 months pregnant it has flared up. I have terribly dry skin on my legs and arms and just looks red. Exceptionally bad on my hands, putting on loads of treatment from GP but the dry skin just will not clear up. it just wont budge!

bathing everyday in medicated bath oil which is so soothing and cannot live without! spending about 1 - 2 hrs everyday moisterising with cetraben and doublebase. like slippery fish one minute then 12 hrs later a dried up prune - so annoying. I am hoping this will clear up once pregnancy is over, suffering alot. Advice appreciated

I know i had eczema too in my teens much worse.. mine is chronic, meaning its not that serious but bothers u daily bit by bit then there are periods when flare-ups worsen due to stress or hormonal changes. There's no absolute cure but through years of self research i manage to control it quite well, i don rely on doctors anymore nothing much they can do except prescribe anti-histamines which loses effectiveness over time or steriod creams which thins out ur skin.

A few suggestions u can try. 1) Keep ur body as healthy as possible. Eczema flare-ups closely connected to a weakened immune system and toxins. Good health give good skin make sense right? keep away from deep fried and processed foods. Years ago, i gave up on medication and tried taking vitamin C n E supplements, i noticed some improvement. Then i tried grape seed extract a even more powerful antioxidant, my rash cleared up within a few days. Recently, I just took another course of burdock root which also help as it is said to purify ur blood and act as mild laxative. Move ur bowels daily to rid of toxins n drink plenty of water to cleanse and moisturise internally.

2) If u have abit of cash on hand, try going to a spa once or twice a month. I find that seaweed wraps n green tea or milk baths helps my sensitive skin alot. Not sure for pregnant ladies though, u gotta ask ur therapist abt that.

3) Emu oil is the best. I slather it on nightly it penetrates deeply moisturises deeply reduce inflammation and scarring like a wonder. Look for 100% pure emu oil. Don worry they don kill the birdie for the oil they just help them do liposuction hahaha. Only catch is that its quite expensive and slight odour since it comes frm a bird. But its au natural and doesnt ruin ur skin like steriod cream can.

4) For my bath products i go organic, cost abit more but it makes a huge difference. Avoid soaps with strong fragrances. An organic skin product shd only contain a mild smell of the natural ingredients. Personally i like organic lavender, it not only soothes the skin but also relax the mind. Remember ezcema is related to stress and tension.

4) this one u have to do abit of self discovery... different pple r allergic to different foods. It may take years to discover which. For me im okay with shellfish but milk and cup noodle will make me flare up. There are those who claim that evening primrose oil is good for ezcema but i found that im actually allergic, my arms became swollen half an hr after taking the capsules.

Nowasday i wear a bikini and no one even can tell i had ezcema problem. I even get compliments i have great glowing skin. Forget the doctors and start taking care of urself. Good luck ;)

use a cheese grater

i have it i use E 45 cream it works.!!

sounds like dermatitis i have it and yes its really sore try and keep your self wrapped up from the cold as that affects it to wear gloves and that. also i used Vaseline derma care intensive rescue twice a day it keeps my skin most still dry but not as tight.then after a while it goes the comes back but i still use it. for showering or bath don't used anything but water or if you can find something that doesn't affect then its OK i use dove then put my Vaseline on. i used to go to the docs all the time and i was spending a lot of money on stuff that never worked that he gave me so i dont go anymore.

try E45! worls for loads of people and try drinking plenty of water becasue 60-70% of our body is made od up water! My cuzin used to have eczema, she was born with it and it was a disaster for her! she used to use a cream but cant remember what its called but the docs told her to drink goats milk rather than cow! try it see if it works!

Sarah, your best bet is Vaseline for moisturizing. Vaseline is neutral and locks the moisture better than any other moisturizer. If it fails then try anti-eczema ointment from champori.com (it is herbal and works fast)
Best,
Bernadette
