Alternative treatments for asthma?!

Question: I have recently been diagnosed with mild/moderate asthma stemming from severe allergies. I am on a steroid inhaler, and albuterol when needed, but is there anything else I can do to reduce my dependance on the inhalers? Natural, holistic treatments that can help me breathe easier?

There is no cure for asthma and one does not out grow it. You can become symptom free however the underlying cause is always there.

The best non medication treatment for asthma is learning your asthma triggers and avoiding them. If you are unable to identify the triggers or if you can't avoid them, you will need asthma medications.

Anyone diagnosed with asthma should have a rescue inhaler with them at all times for that "just in case" moment. If you have to use the rescue inhaler more then 2 times per week, you will need a preventive medication.

You will need an asthma action plan to log your medications and when to use them. Track your signs and symptoms as well as your peak flow readings.

No one should be limited in their daily activities because of asthma. It can be managed.

well, whatever you do, do NOT stop taking your inhalers until you are 150% absolutely positive the other treatments are working.

Trust me on this one.

I am not sure if I helped you.

Do a google search on homeopathy asthma or seek out a homeopathic doctor in your area. The link I gave is just one thing to investigate. There are lots of books as well. Good luck.

Here's a story for your benefit... I had a friend whose friend tried something that actually was advertised on an infomercial... and she did get better. She got so better for about 3 months, that she completely quit carrying around her inhalers... then one day she passed in her car. So, my advice, there is something out there that works (don't know what it was, but it was something from around 4 or 5 years ago).. I think it was a vitamin supplement of somekind... anyways, just always be dependant enough in your mind to carry your inhaler... sorry if this wasn't much help and depressing, its just your question scared me for you.

God Bless and I pray you receive healing.

Exercise.
I had chronic asthma when I was a little kid and I managed to fight it off... When I was about 10, I could hardly do any sports because after 15 minutes I would be out of breath - painfully gasping for air. So, I gave up on sports all together. Then my doctor told me that exercise was exactly what I needed. After that I began playing soccer... it was hard and painful at first but it gradually became easier.

My parents then sent me to a boarding school out in the country, which helped a lot because of the cleaner air. At school, I did more soccer and picked up track. I gradually got better endurance and even picked up cross-country. As I got better at sports, I had less frequent attacks. By the time I was 16, asthma was no more - almost.

I am now 20 and only had one attack in the past two years. I still walk around with an inhaler because my doctor says I can still get an irregular attack.

I think what helped me the most was exercising and cleaner air. Just fight the urge to give up and you can out live asthma.

Don't let asthma knock the wind out of you. Asthma is a lung disorder characterised by sudden fits of wheezing, coughing, or shortness of breath. According to research or other evidence, the following self-care steps may be helpful:
