Am i allergic to chlorine?!


Question: i'm a swimmer and i swim ALOT, i come out of the pool after about 2 hrs. and rite in the middle of my neck are these 2 red rashes on the same spot of each side. they sting. when ever i swim i can feel them coming on. it feels like my suite is rubbing... or like my skin rite below my neck is rubbing on the skin above it... what should i do... it bothers me alot at practice?

No, you aren't allergic to the chlorine. I assume you're female and you're wearing a suit with thick straps. That happens to lots of girls when they swim. I had problems with it myself. I suggest that you use some vaseline where it rubs before you get in...yeah it's kinda weird feeling but you'll live...or I suggest that you start buying suits with skinny straps. Either way, it should help. You can also put some lotion on it after you dry off to help it heal. I hope it gets better!

Maybe be sure to put vaseline on before swimming to keep skin friction down.

It doesn't sound like an allergy. It sounds like the suit is irritating your neck in a particular area, and it's the same area every time you swim. I'd recommend a different suit, or if you're going to use the same one, you need to protect those areas of your neck with a barrier, i.e. petroleum, or even better, adhesive pads often used by pro athletes.
