There is a condition known as primary spontaneous pneumothorax (which obviously the previous posters were unaware of). This means that the lung collapses on its own, usually with no known cause. This is more common in young males who are tall and thin. A pneumothorax occurs when some air enters the chest cavity, causing the lung to collapse (due to a pressure difference).
The lung is reinflated by insertion of a chest tube. There is a procedure known as pleurodesis which can be done to prevent recurrences if you have experienced several of these episodes.
Hope this makes sense!
Check out the Medline link - it has some more info- easy to understand- credible site.

I've never heard of lungs spontaneously collapsing. Usually there's a disease or injury that causes this to happen - you should get yourself to a good pulmonologist and have them figure out what's going on.

What the hell does that mean? I have never heard of someone spontaneously having their lungs collapse.
