Smoked for 3 years- not all that regularly- irreparable damage?!

Question: Like it says, I've smoked for 3 years, not even a pack a week, and some months none at all. If I stop now, can I still fairly well salvage my lungs?

No your lungs are remarkable. Your lungs have tiny organisms called macrophages and they remove tar and other things from your lungs. Think of these macrophages as cleaner fish. They eat all the junk off of a fish tank. If the fish tank is incredibly dirty it takes a while to clean it. It works the same way for your lungs if you've been smoking for a long time it'll take a while for the macrophages to clean up your lungs. All in all you should be O.K Three years isn't a long time, just stop smoking and your body will repair it self. Good look, this is one of the smartest decisions you've made in your life. You'll feel better and wont get sick as often. Thanks and God Bless.

Yes, unless you already have emphysema or cancer, your lungs should recover completely

oh sure, just don't ever start again. Lung cancer is not a pretty way to go.

Stop before any damage is done and in 6 months your lungs will be like you never smoked. Once the damage is done its too late.

Quit an lungs repair themselves

the lungs are repairable until you reach the first stages of emphysema. Once you reach that, the damage is permanent. Everyone is different, some get things right away, some take longer.

Yes,but please quit now.
