Accutane. Last resort?!

Question: I have acne. :[
Its mostly just on my forehead.

NOTHING is working. i've already tried the stupid creams and pills the doctor gave me, but i been thinking about accutane.

How much does it cost with insurance, and how often do I need to get blood work done? (I'm seriously phobic of needles but its depressing to have such horrible skin!)

with insurance, it cost me $5/month for the prescription, $20/ month for the derm visit and the blood tests were free. i was on it for 26 weeks. my acne wasn't very sever when i started accutane.

Do it. You won't be sorry. Five years ago I spent $800. a month for six months for the Accutane, plus several hundred to the dermatologist for my step-son. This year I got it for my grandson, but his mom had insurance, plus Accutane has gone way down in price. Total cost was about $600. for everything. In both these guys the results were terrific. As I recall, the bloodwork was every four or six weeks (four or six times total).

Accutane is only for severe, cystic, nodular acne. It is a serious medication for serious acne. When on accutane, you may need to have your blood drawn every month to monitor your liver and pancreas, and you will have to abstain from sex or use two forms of birth control. You will have a pregnancy test every month before your prescription is given to you.

If you have insurance, the cost will vary depending on your prescription plan - for example, if you have tiered co-pays, Accutane will probably require the highest co-pay and the doctor will need to get authorization from your insurance company so they will pay for it. In order to do that, you have to have the kind of severe acne I mentioned before, and you have to have not responded to other acne medications.

well i used to be on it because of my face as well, if i remember correctly it cost me $40 with insurance and you i needed blood work every month until the doctor tells you to get off the accutane.

Hope this Helps
