Consult with a nutritionist who is familiar with the requirments of a Type 2 diabetic. Most hospitals have a person or group that fits this bill.

The best thing to do first is to see a nutritionist to get the best weight loss plan set up for you. The other advice I can give you, since I am also diabetic myself, is to also exercise, and when it comes to diet (the nutritionist will most likely tell you this too) watch your carb intake, and also try to leave out anything that is full of sugar. If you can, substitute candy, soda, juice or what not with sugar free. Trust, you will not be able to taste the difference between regular and sugar free
