Regarding hypercholesterolemia (very high cholesterol), does anyone know of a re!

Question: I was told a few decades ago that I "probably" had familial hypercholesterolemia, but one doctor did say that my family history did not fit the "pattern" of FH. Are there metabolic disorders that could cause a very high level of cholesterol to be manufactured in the liver? I have just read a book on IBS that links it to bacterial overgrowth in the small intestine, which then causes toxemia. The same phenomenon can cause some cases of fibromyalgia. I have both. Could bacterial overgrowth explain high cholesterol? Would the liver being unable to clear all of the toxin increase (or lose control over) its production of cholesterol? One more thing - apparently 2 researchers won the Nobel prize about 20 years ago or more for discovering the gene that causes familial hypercholesterolemia. Does anyone know whether a genetic test for FH is available? Thanks.

familial hypercholesterolemia affects ONLY 0.5 @of the population

hypercholesterolemia is a NON disease

familial hypercholesterolemia is a REAL disease

but VERY rare

And recent studies have shown that large reduction in the choleserol levels of perosn with familia hypercholesterolemia were NOT followed by reductions in theor vascular obstructions

.Good question. You may need to google all that for formal answer. Check credentials

All that stuff about the toxins and bacteria is not true.If that were the case, then cholesterol levels would change dramatically after certain antibiotics. This is not seen.
In regard to he toxin issue, this is again not true. The liver is a highly evolved detoxifier. The only problem is that it is free, and no "natural medicine" company can market its good work for a profit.

If you have been told that you have familial hypercholesterolemia, then you need to urgently go on a statin drug, or you will be cutting your life short by many years (maybe even decades). This is regardless of the philosophies underlying it.

Everyone produces cholesterol some produce more than others ,we need cholesterol for our body's to function ,but then there guy's like my dad who the more he would cut down on the intake of cholesterol's in food the more his body would produce it, the only way he could get it under control is with statins, and those levels should be checked every 6 months.the liver is a very complicated organ
