Is this common for asthmatics?!

Question: I woke up this morning and realized that I was breathing pretty shallow breaths. Took all of my medicine this morning (Albuterol, Symbicort and Spiriva) AND had a cup of coffee. While it worked for a few hours, the shallow breaths came back and my chest was tight. Had another cup of coffee and took Albuterol. Didn't really help. Chest still hurts and noticed that my heart was beating quicker than usual. Now I'm just worn out, feel weak, there are dark circles under my eyes. I'm wheezing when I inhale and am coughing a rattle cough. In between coughs I have to gasp for air and I'm wheezing when I do that.

Is this a normal occurrence even after the medicine? What else can I do?

It's common... but it's a really bad sign. Sounds like you need to go in for a few treatments.

The albuterol should have cleared it up. You feel tired and yucky because you are not getting enough oxygen. Sounds like you are having an asthma attack. Asthma attacks do not have to be so dramatic that you end up in the hospital, you know. Do you have a breathing machine in your room?

The coffee should only be used in an emergency. You need to go to the doctor as soon as you can and get a treatment or two.

it could be the albuterol. i am asthmatic. and albuterol sometimes does this to me. however, go to the hospital because they will give you a special nebulizer treatment that will REALLY help.

No, that is not normal. I have had days like that. Although my asthma bothers me the worst at night when I am trying to sleep. It could be from allergies that day that are preventing you from breathing well. If it gets any worse you may need to go to the hospital and get treated. You do not want to think you have it under control and then have a full blown asthma attack.

try not to breath, its bad for yout lungs. you should eat or inhale cardboard and touch your bum, humming anthems is contestual

Well even though you take your meds it is really to control you asthma.
It sounds like your asthma has already been aggrevated, in this situation I would go to the hospital so they can give you a nebulizer treatment.

It's not normal- it sounds like your asthma is poorly controlled on this regime. You need to get checked out, so go to a hospital, where they will give you oxygen and nebs to stabilise, and have your meds reviewed. I had two major episodes last year (scared the heck out of me), but haven't looked back since changing meds to newer ones, and have only needed prednisone once this year after a chest infection. Go get checked!

Go to the doctor and get your medicines adjusted. Your asthma should be in better control than what you are describing. It could just be that you are coming down with a cold or flu and that is making asthma symptoms worse. Have you tried Advair or Serevent? Really good asthma medicines to prevent attacks.
