I think you need to make an appointment with your GP...is there maybe another one in the practice you can see as you don't like yours? Certainly a cough shouldn't 'hang on' this long and you need your chest listened to in case there is an underlying infection.
You mentioned nights being worse, I'd recommend loads of pillows to prop yourself up...it helps the lungs expand and lessens the cough. Make sure your room is not overheated and get some ventilation through it. Put some damp towels over your radiators to get some humidity in the air. Make sure you are taking lots of warm drinks (not cold) as they help to relax the airway and loosen any mucous. Suck on lozenges or pastilles for your throat as they help produce saliva which keeps the throat lubricated.
If you really can't face your GP then try calling NHS DIrect (08454647) as they may be able to provide details of an NHS walk-in centre near to you. Good luck and get well soon.

Since it is the winter and depending where you are at the temperature can vary. I too have a cough (although not as serious as yours). I take Nyquil and put the blanket over my head and usually that solves it. Now in your case, you might want to check with a doctor for bronchitis or something.

Having crackly chest and coughing , usually means you have bronchitis. Bronchitis usually turns into walking pneumonia or full blown pneumonia.

You should go to the doctor to get correct antibiotics.

Also if you don't like your doctor ? CHANGE !

Irrespective of your relationship with your GP - make an appointment to see her ASAP - from the description of the symptoms you have it is entirely possible you may have Bronchitis.

Go see the cow,let her check you out,see if there is anything she can prescribe that will help.Don,t forget to tell her that it is keeping you awake.Good luck.

It does sound like you could have a chest infection and along with the tonsillitis, you will almost definately need antibiotics, otherwise it could all develop into something much worse. If I were you I would go to the GP out of hours (do you have one of those?) and you will then be able to see a different doctor, thats what I did.

Benelyn can help with coughs like the ones you describe.

Without seeing you or being able to examine you, it is impossible to make a dignosis. But on the basis of the symptoms you give, then yes, go and see your GP. Don't leave it any longer.

You say you have tonsillitis. That explains your cough most likely. A cough is simply your airway's way of protecting itself, and your tonsils are very close to your airways. If it has been 6 weeks since your cold and now you have tonsillitis, and you are still coughing, it is definitely time to visit your doctor again. 6 weeks is a long time. Do you have a fever? Chills? Pain? Weakness? Stiffness or joint pain? Go see your doctor, asap. If you leave an infection to roam freely in your body, it can gain strength and be even more difficult to fight once it is detected.

You do not leave it you go to doctor even if a cow and get her to examine you as you need antibiotics to clear up the throat infection, the crackles may be chest infection she will also be able to give you some coadine to calm that cough for you so you can get some sleep.
Go to doctor now phone up tommorow and with luck you will see emergancy doctor not cow.
