Is it safe to give kids NyQuil?!

Question: He is 18 months. So not quite a kid. He is coughing really bad and there are no other medicines in the house. It has warnings on the bottle so I know I am NOT suppose to give him this medicine, but he is crying every time he coughs.

DO NOT GIVE THAT BABY NYQUIL!!!

Take him to the doctor or the hospital, they will give check him out and give him the proper medication. Their is a reason that they put those warning labels on medications.

Try giving him a spoonfull of jelly or give him a bottle of diluted apple juice or anything that will be easier on his throat while he is coughing. If you don't have a humidifier, then boil a pan of water on your stove for a couple hours keeping water from boiling out of it.

YES IT IS MY DOCTER CAUSE IM THE KID AND HE SAID IT WAS FINE FOR ANY KID TO TAKE SPECIALLY DURING ALERGY SEASON !!!! IT TASTE AUFUL BUT IT WORKS AND ITS VERY OK TO GIVE KIDS

read the labels n see, but i dont think so, im 20 n that stuff knocked me out lol ( makes u really sleepy) i dont think i would encourage it

no.... I made that mistake. It will make him sick(vomiting)
for the cough here is what I do... works every time.
Vicks vapor rub (ointment... not the cream). Rub it on his feet, generously, and then put on thick socks.... His feet will absorb the menthol, and soothe his cough, it isn't dangerous to him at all, and you can do this as often as needed.... hope he feels better....

Recent research has shown that cough medicines such as dextromethorphan don't work on children under six. A tablespoon of honey has been shown to be more effective than any over-the-counter cough medicine. And NO, don't give an 18 month-old Nyquil. The dosage is too high, and the alcohol is terrible for their little bodies.

It has ALCOHOL in it.
If you're ok with getting your kid tanked, have at it.
I doubt Child Protective Services or your pediatrician would approve.

(and by the way; 18 months is not only a "kid", that's damn near still "baby". It's BARELY "toddler".)

I believe there was a recent story on NPR about the cough suppressant in NyQuil and other such cough medicines. It should not be given to children because it is a mild hallucinogen and can seriously mess up a child's dream and sleep cycle. That's why you get really vivid dreams when you take it.

yes
