have sex! supposedly spern helps speed up the process!
walk! and then walk some more. if things don't start to progress, the doc may recommend potossin, which can be painful. so have her walk a lot. worked for me!
A long hot shower, walking.........if she has no medical reason for bedrest! The more she can keep moving the more it will help things along. The hot shower will relax her but it's best she doesn't do either of these things alone!
an injection of pitocin
just try to keep her mind off of it. it could be a good while longer than again it could go quick but 1cm, sounds like she's got time to go. there are old wives tales, take her for a bumpy car ride. also, seriously, i hear sex can move things along

That's what worked for me with my second child. There is a natural chemical in sperm that will dilate the cervix and soften it.
That may sound like tacky advice, but it will be the last time she can have sex for 6 weeks so maybe it won't come off too bad, lol.
I went to bed after sex with only 1 cm and 50% and I woke up with 6 cm fully effaced with NO PAIN whatsoever to get me that far along. I went to the hospital and they broke my water, I had the baby shortly afterwards. The contractions never hurt, just the delivery.
