Is it pierced? The main thing is to keep it clean and dry. Pierced or not. Peroxide is good, as is an antibiotic ointment. Don't take the ring out if it is pierced, simple keep moving it around and adding the medication. Physoderm ( an acne face wash), or something like an antibiotic wash will help, dry it with a clean paper towel, and then add the ointment. If it continues to be red and pus, see you doctor. If it is deep inside your belly button, you may need to use a cotton swab to go in there, pour a cap full of peroxide in it, let it bubble, then dry it VERY well, then, use the swab to put the wash in,..rinse it very very well, dry it, then add the ointment.
As with any infection, if it is not cleared up in a few days, seek medical attention

you have to take the ring out and let it heal up, obviously you haven't been taking care of it

wash very well, use peroxide several times a day and then put some antibacterial cream on it. cover it with a bandaid so the infection doesn't get on you clothes to possibly spread. If it doesn't clear up in a few days go see a Dr.
