Migraine Diet?!

Question: I am 21, black, 128lbs, and I have had migraines as long as I can remember. After several trips to the ER this month I was referred to a neurologist who put me on a preventative and gave me an Rx for 800mg of ibuprofen. I want to change my diet to prevent migraines. I am cutting out tea, coffee, chocolate, and having 2 cocktails a month at the most. Also I don't smoke. I have read long list of foods to avoid. So what should I eat?

I'd recommend eating a whole food diet as much as possible. Whole foods are foods that haven't been processed. Apples are whole foods, applesauce in a can is not. There are plenty of nutrition websites that can help you choose your food carefully. Avoid caffeine at all costs, because caffeine causes the blood vessels in the brain to contract, which helps bring on a migrane. Actually, I'd cut out all alcohol. Your body doesn't need it, but if your list doesn't rule out white wine, maybe a glass of that, but stay away from mixers and beer.

Controlling migrane headaches means a lifestyle change. Good luck!

Cheese
Chocolate
Citrus fruits
Hot dogs
Monosodium glutamate
Aspartame
Fatty foods
Ice cream
Caffeine withdrawal
Alcoholic drinks, especially red wine and beer
Bananas
--apparently all those things cause migraines, so you should eat less of these things

Hi BootyFull

Here are some testimonials on healing the issue.

12/03/2007: Carolyn from Pittsburgh, PA writes: "I just wanted to give yet another testimonial for ACV and headache. I woke up with a killer of a headache and had the standard two tablespoons of ACV, about 1 tablespoon of honey, in 8 ounces of cold water. I finally learned to stir in the honey, before the water, which dissolves it much faster. The headache subsided, but it took a second dose to take it away, and it stayed away. I also think that it is very important to use the organic, raw, unfiltered ACV. I have come to really enjoy this mixture as it tastes almost like apple cider with a little zing, and know that it helpful for much more than headaches. My family just went through a tough cold and I did not catch it. I attribute it to my almost daily use of ACV."

8/30/2007: Martina (frazerfamily@xtra.co.nz) from Auckland, New Zealand writes: "I suffer from hypertension after being on medication I still had headaches and felt very tired, I came across this website and immediately went out to buy ACV, mixed with honey and garlic took 2 tablespoons in the morning and went to work. After 4 hours I had no headaches and feeling great. I wish I came across this website much earlier, thank you so much everybody for sharing this great remedy!!!! Martina (N.Zealand)"

Best of health to you

You've already had some good input on what to avoid - it is a lifestyle change - lower your stress levels (walking is great - so is a dog). Before you hit the big time meds try feverfew, ginger tea and a magnesium pill.
Drink at least five 8oz glasses of water daily.
I see people run from one heavy duty medication to another in search of something - often that's not the answer.
