Can you explain my symptoms? do they mean I will be baren?!

Question: Back in April when having a physical for my new job the on site physician found an enlargement of my thyroid, after having and ultrasound and biopsy it was diagnosed as a nodule. i always thought that meant just a goiter, an enlargement of the thyroid gland, after all of the panic of thinking at 22 years of age i had cancer, things went back to normal when i found out everything was fine. since then matter of a fact during the last 3-4 months I have been having the following symptoms: dizziness, light headed, vertigo, nausea, tightness in my throat (that may not be related to the other symptoms.) and also tightness in the back upper left corner of my neck. that last one might not be related to the others either though. i have started searching for symptoms online and i have come up with a few but it seems that they are all pointing back to a thyroid condition... the only thing i cant figure out is after the biopsy the dr. just told me to have an ultrasound every year...

Your doctor my not have put you on any medication because your TFT's (thyroid function tests) had normal results, in other words, your TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) does not need to be replaced.

Say you had a low TSH, you would be considered to have HYPERthyroidism, a high TSH would be considered HYPOthyroidism. It's weird, but that is how the medical professionals put it; you'd think the lower value would be hypo, I know I did.

If you had a high TSH (hypo) then your doctor would give you a medication to bring your level down to a normal range. If you had a low TSH (hyper)...the options for treatment this are many.

The links below may help you understand better the form you have, and possibly give you an idea of your future for children (I will keep you in my prayers for this...children are a JOY).

Good luck.

If you got new symptoms after seeing the doctor, why haven't you gone back there? Your symptoms might not be connected, or they might mean your condition is more serious than the doctor thought when he/she examined you.

You should see your Primary Care doctor and give her/him all the details. Definately ask to have blood work to screen for Thyroid function as well as Parathyroid function. Depending on the results you may be referred to an Endocrinologist.

I had a mass on one of my Parathyroid glands and had symptoms similar to what you describe. It was surgically removed, was not cancer, and solved the problem.
