Asthma related?!

Question: Long story, but when I was 17 (now 35) I was told I had asthma. I stopped taking medication at 23 years old. My ex convinced me it was in my head. Anyway, I went to my GP and he had me take a V/Q scan and a Pulmonary Function test. He told me it's Mild COPD! I freaked out! I took it apon myself to see a Pulmonary Specialist and he said it's NOT COPD, it's asthma. I am using Advair, 2 puffs in the AM and 2 puffs in the PM, it doesn't seem to be helping much. I am scared that it is COPD since the medicine isn't working properly. I can't see him again until the 25th of January. Am I just too worried thinking it is COPD?Thanks for your input.

Advair is actually a medication for both diseases, COPD and Asthma. Advair was actually approved for asthma first then received an indication for treating COPD. An indication that you have uncontrolled asthma is, how much albuterol or rescue inhaler are you using. If you are using more than 2 puffs twice a week you have uncontrolled asthma according to the NIH guidelines. Continue to see a Specialist, preferably an Allergist.

Don't worry; just wait 'til you see the specialist. I'm sure you are aware that stress and anxiety exacerbates asthma and most other conditions.

First, asthma can be part of the COPD process. Second, Advair is more of a medication for COPD then it is for asthma. Third. If it is asthma, it can be managed. and finally, if you had a full pulmonary function test, they should be able to tell what diseases you have.

By any chance to you have the results and are willing to share? I wold like to see the % value for FEV1, FEF 25-75, DLCO, RV and TLC.

Long ... BUT well worth the reading.

Make the connection!

I am a nurse with over 25 years experience in this area and I have seen a lot of people with various illnesses caused from chemicals and fragranced products as well as VOC
