Treatment
If your symptoms are typical of a UTI and you're generally in good health, antibiotics are the first line of treatment. Which drugs are prescribed and for how long depends on your health condition and the type of bacteria found in your urine. Drugs most commonly recommended for simple UTIs include amoxicillin (Amoxil, Trimox), nitrofurantoin (Furadantin, Macrodantin), trimethoprim (Proloprim) and the antibiotic combination of trimethoprim and sulfamethoxazole (Bactrim, Septra). Make sure your doctor is aware of any other medications you're taking or any allergies you have. This will help him or her select the best treatment.

Usually, UTI symptoms clear up within a few days of treatment. But you may need to continue antibiotics for a week or more. Take the entire course of antibiotics recommended by your doctor to ensure that the infection is completely eradicated. For an uncomplicated UTI that occurs when you're otherwise healthy, your doctor may recommend a shorter course of treatment, such as taking an antibiotic for three days. But whether this short course of treatment is adequate to treat your UTI depends on your particular symptoms and medical history.

If you have recurrent UTIs, your doctor may recommend a longer course of antibiotic treatment or a self-treatment program with short courses of antibiotics at the outset of your urinary symptoms. For infections related to sexual activity, your doctor may recommend taking a single dose of antibiotic after sexual intercourse.

For severe UTIs, hospitalization and treatment with intravenous antibiotics may be necessary. When recurrences are frequent or a kidney infection becomes chronic, your doctor will likely refer you to a doctor who specializes in urinary disorders (urologist) or a doctor whose specialty is kidneys (nephrologist) for an evaluation to determine if urologic abnormalities may be causing the infections.

sorry =\
i suggest taking cranberry pills.. and eating cranberries.. and drinking cranberry juice (not coctail.. make sure it says 100 % juice.) SUGAR is BAD when you have uti.
drink lots and lots of water..
and if possible HOLD your pee untill the last possible second untill your bladder is completely full with water or juice. this way the infection has a better chance of flushing itself out... because if you keep peeing little by little.. the infection stays (if not gets worse by exposing it) in your tract.

holding in your pee when you DONT have uti CREATES uti.. if not created other ways.. but holding it when you DO have uti.. helps relieve pain.

if you see blood or a lot of it.. go to a doc.

Drink three 8 ounce glasses of cranberry juice a day for your UTI.
Lasix is not an antibiotic. In fact the diuretic may induce a urinary tract infection in a few folks.

they have certain medication for UTI. i had one and the doctor prescribed me a "special medication" that helps UTI specifically. you can take Lasix and see if it helps because it's not like it will hurt you too take it, just give you diarrhea.
a good idea, though, would be to visit the doctor so he can prescribe medication- that will get rid of the pain faster and more efficiently.

lasix (furoemide) is a diuretic (a water pill), it is not used for UTI's. As stated earlier if you having difficulty urinating (going pee) the lasix is going draw water out of your body to make you have to pee.

Juices high in acid content are good to drink especially cranberry juice( not cranberry drink the actual juice). This increases the acid content of the pee and help kill the bacteria. Also drink water it helps flush the bacteria out.

An antibiotic usual prescribed by you doctor. Always check with doctor before taking any other medication.

there are many way to help prevent UTI, drink plenty of fluids, especially water; urinate promptly when the urge arises; wipe from front to back; empty your bladder as soon as possible after intercourse and avoid potentially irritating feminine products.

I hope this helps!

R.N.

Lasix is not an antibiotic, its a diruetic also called a water pill. A UTI is an infection and can only be cured by taking antibiotics such as Bactrim, Cipro, Levaquin, or Rocephin.
