Having an anxiety attack... whats the best way to calm down?!

Question: No one ever died from an anxiety attack. I did a course on anxiety/panic attacks. The best advice was don't fight it. Just sit in a chair and let it happen. I didn't think it would work but decided to try it. Guess what? it passed quicker than if I tried to fight it.

Listen to music that makes you happy really loud. And hold a pet or something. My cat always helps me after a panic attack

Alright man. Ok you got to just relax and think. Why am I freaking out right now? Where is my anxiety coming from?

Just tell yourself its gonna be ok and you can ride it out.

chill out.
tell yourslf your going to be ok.
talk to someone on the phone.
watch tv

If you don't have any Xanax around, the best thing would be to lie on your bed or the floor and just remain still and breathe fully- count your breaths. This works for me.

Try some calming music while lieing down and breathing in and out deeply and concentrating on counting during the breath and listening to it. In through nose and out through mouth, count of ten each. Chamomile tea is also soothing.

I think it depends where you are. The most important part is to regulate your breathing. Tell yourself that what you feel isnt real and you need to calm down. Dont stress about calming down. Just take a deep breath and calm down.

breathe deep. go slow. calm down. get some oxygen.

breathing exercises and a type of "self hypnosis" where you imagine yourself in a calm place and tell yourself that it will pass...I've had panic attacks for years and find that these technics work.

Take deep breaths
wash your face
drink some water
hug your cat<3

GO STREAKING!!!!!!! lol.. naa then everyone else would have a anxiety attack lol aww jk jk ... umm idk listen to music as suggested :) ummm

music helps me, and also takin a walk outside helps me ALOT. If its dark outside, just step outside and look up...it always calms me

Gosh thats a good question. I had one while I was in court one time and I almost freaked but luckily it dragged on for longer then I expected and I had time to calm down. Ugh. I couldn't keep still. It was awful.

take deep breaths
Focus on a nice calm memory

poor thing i have had these my whole entire life. i suggest literally thinking of nothing. don't think, meditate if possible. you need to get out of yourself to get over it. go for a run, make dinner whatever you have to do. people with accute anxiety have a very escalated sense of what is going on inside and you need to take your mind out of that. do something else. if you are in bed and can't run or whatever i suggest you repeat a word over and over until you aren't thinking of anything else. like happiness happiness (ex). beeen there done that you can get through it.

you just have to breathe. Whastever worry caused it will soon pass. Just breathe, slowly and deeply and take yourself somewhere peaceful in your mind. Think about a time when you were happy and safe and everything was ok.

I think panic attacks happen to everyone every now or then, but if this is happening a lot you need to talk to someone about it to get to the bottom.

Eat a banana and drink a half a cup of milk, wait ten minutes and think about answering questions on this computer and everything else will fall into place.

step outside and get some fresh air if you can or stand near an open window, i use to have panic attacks during math exams.

i have really severe panic, anxiety attack's,which im on medication but before the pill's i would try to relax and start counting numbers in my head,it worked sometime's for me.it's a scary feeling, i hope you find something that work's for you.

Ricky, sit quietly, breathe deeply, and if there is anything that needs to be told to the police or to a doctor, call them. If not, just sitting quietly, reaffirming that you are safe where you are will begin to slow your heart rate. Sipping a glass of water is mindless, and will take your mind off the panic. If it is about needing a solution to something, write down the question, and list several alternatives (briefly). Then "turn it over to God" ( or whatever you believe) in your mind, and ask for a solution. If you pray in your own way, an answer will come. Hang in there. A warm bath also can help, if that is possible. Just do all you can to reassure yourself that you are safe. And, if you are not, then go to safety at once.

Tapping, and stomach deep breathing, counting until you are breathing slower, and , as most of our patient's are advised to do is to walk and do something, that take's you'r mind else where , take it easy that is just for ten to fifteen minute's, sing or turn on radoi to the song's you can sing along with.If at night "" turn on all the light's you can, until it pass's
worst feeling's when in the dark.

I get anxiety attacks all the time, like mainly when I have a big presentation coming up or something. So what I do is keep telling myself and all my friends even, that I'm excited about it and that I'm perfectly fine with it, even though I'm not, but it gets your mind set to thinking that everything is going to be fine. So just keep telling yourself that. And also what I do is take big breaths and try to look at somebody that I know and feel comfertable talking to, and just tune everyone else out and pretend that I'm talking to just them. My humor is aso trying to make things funny so people laugh a little so you think, oh this isn't so bad, they think I'm funny, you know.
I hope that helps..... good luck

My doctor told me that when you get an attack everything "Speeds Up" including your breathing and sometimes causing "hyper ventilation" and when you slow down your breathing, it helps everythign else to get back to normal..... I'm not a doctor but,it works for me !

If I get an attack, I sit down OR lay down .... close my eyes and concentrate on my breathing and I try to BREATHE SLOWLY...... BREATHE IN and hold it for a sec..... then... BREATHE OUT slowly. Sometimes bending over and putting my head between my knees helps too.

Again, i'm not a doctor but it works for me!

i know how you feel i have been suffering from anxiety attacks for 5 years now. Heres a couple of things i do to calm down:

1) POSITIVE THINKING!
2) Deep breathing
3) Listen to music
4) Lie down and breathe
5) Take a long hot bath
6) Talk to someone

positive thinking works the best for me, just say to yourself your okay! its just anxiety you control it you can make it go away! deep breathes in and out works it makes you feel so much more relaxed. If you have been having anxiety attacks a lot i would try to see someone about it.
