Why am I so dehydrated?!

Question: For some reason I'm constantly thirsty and alot of my skin seems really dry and I admit if you take most of my day into account I hardly drink at all, but I'm a caffiene addict and either at 6:00am or 6:00pm everyday(I only do it at one of them times a day not both and it varies on how I'm feeling at the time) I get 2, 2litres bottles of Pepsi Max(main reason it's Pepsi Max is because it gives me such a rush and also it has sweetners not sugar in and sweetners taste better) and I drink all 4litres within an hour roughly, and I do that atleast once everyday, and then also once everyday I have a 500ml glass of orange juice to make sure I get my vitamin C, so why am I so dehydrated when I take in roughly 4.5litres of water a day and then there's the water my body absorbs from the air, so why am I so dehydrated and why is my skin so dry(it's especially dry on the knuckles)?

I don't think I can help fully with your dehydration except talk to a nurse. Although I do have a few things to say that might help.

First off, drinking Pepsi Max is not the best way to go. For the most part, when your dehydrated any type of cokes will make it worse. Have you ever noticed that you are still thirst after drinking a coke? They are desinged to make you drink more cokes so you buy more cokes.
Did you know that if your used to cokes and then suddenly stop drinking them that you will start to get headaces. Cokes used to carry acctual coke in them so that the consumer would be adicted to the drink. Of course they most likely don't use that any more. How ever, I used to drink Dr.Pepper every after noon for a month. Well one day we ran out and my head was hurting so much, it was crazy. It was due to the caffine that I was taking in every afternoon. Any type of caffine will do the same thing to you.
Ok, now on to the running. I'm in track and I'd have to say that when you feel like you need water while your running it's best not to get any. The reason behind it is that it's like eating when you take to much in and of course it's not a good idea to eat while running. The best plan of action there is to take water and just kind of swish it around you mouth and then spit it out. You could try gatorade after you run. It might work, but only the small bottles. Good luck

get checked out for diabetes

You need water. Pop makes you dehydrated in case you did not know. Not good for you at all.

Soda and orange juice are NOT water. Caffeine is a diuretic and will make you lose fluid. If you can't quit your addiction, at least give your body some water to live off of.

You need to drink water, not just soda and juice.

Drink more water.

Problem solved.

EDIT:
If you body rejects water this is simply psychological as your body is over 75% water!

A significant fraction of the human body is water. This body water is distributed in different compartments in the body. Lean muscle tissue contains about 75% water. Blood contains 83% water, body fat contains 25% water and bone has 22% water.

Water is needed by all forms of life and believe it or not in all of your flavored drinks, the main ingredient is WATER!!!

you are dehydrated because all you take in are diuretics and these cause your body to loose water. the only way you can get hydrated is to drink WATER. you need two liters of WATER a day

what you are drinking is NOT water, it may have water in it but it does not count.

See a doctor immediately! Try to reduce your caffeine intake and don't drink Pepsi etc. Have water and other natural drinks instead.

have your sugar checked

you need to drink water....the Pepsi does not account for your daily fluid intake. Take it from someone who knows...there were days when I would drink nothing but Pepsi and I got so dehydrated and had to go to the hospital. My organs were shutting down...my kidneys were the ones first to go. If you don't like plain water, drink gatorade or vitamin water.

Probably because fizzy drinks don't really hydrate you at all . caffeine is definitely not good if you are thirsty and the sweeteners also don't help if you need to have something to hydrate you with caffeine in then lucozade with the caffeine boost in is probably what you should be drinking as this has the sugars and salts that will re-hydrate your body. Or you could just ditch the junk and drink water, fruit juice or squash. your body does not really absorb water from the air unless it is more moist outside the lungs than it is inside them. As for the skin it could be completely unrelated so if drinking more fluids doesn't help just try to moisturize .

visit ur doc, sounds like u cud av diebetes

drink water

soda isn't good for you in a lot of ways, one of thereasons is that it makes you dehydrate faster, just drink water, and for your dry skin, i guess you can just use lotion

Caffeine is a diuretic so that pretty much accounts for your dehydration. Cut the caffeine and drink some actual water, your body will thank you.

Caffeine dehydrates - drink water or non-caffeine based energy drinks

Hey Man,

I think it's not all to do with the amount of water your taking in, your bloodstream might not be going to areas, and thats why your knuckles might be dry..

Firstly, I think you need to rest. You sound like someone who is into a lot of sports, football, rugby.. Basically, have a rest, and see what happens...

Remember, your only 15, your body is still maturing, so your bones are working twice as hard, putting strain onto your body - making you sweat out fat

If it gets worse go see your local doctor, hope it works out.

Man u seriously need to cut the caffeine and start drinking more water. My mother in law had the same problem and guess what...shes now a diabetic on insulin. Not telling you to scare you, but you need to wake up it can happen. You don't need to go cold turkey, but you can try drinking less pop, coffee, juice, etc. and consume more water and an electrolyte drink like Gatorade or power aide. If it becomes too hard go see a doctor and ask what he or she recommends to properly replenish your body.

you drink to much pepsi you ever tried stop drink that for a day i bet you would crave theres a tapping system

its not much but i hope you feel better your craving will go and you can drink water.....

You seem to be consuming an awful lot of caffeine. Caffeine is a diuretic, it makes you thirsty. You need to lay off the caffeine and the acid. You may be consuming what you consider a good bit of water but the other liquids you take in are counterbalancing the water's effort to infuse your system. You need to be careful and change your liquid consumption really quick because the unresolved dehydration can lead to kidney problems. You sound like you already know the answer to your question.

Okay first of all if you drink caffeine evey day at a certain time its going to take effect on your body. Then if you drink 4 litres of pepsi in an hour at least once everyday of course your going to be dehydrated do you known that pepsi and coke affect your system if you drink to much of it, it slowly blocks proteins. As for the orange juice i think you should drink a cup of it in the morning with breakfast and at night with dinner. And the water you should be drinking around 4-8 glasses a day it really keeps your body hydrated. If the skin it to dry in your knuckles i dont think its because your deydrating i think its because of the cold so such put some cream on it and see what happens. Also since your fifteen you might want to cut down on the caffeine and on the pepsi.

You have pretty much answered the question for yourself.

Caffeine is a diuretic, it makes you urinate and expel water.

Your body can only absorb a certain amount of fluid in a given period of time. You will pee most of that four litres straight out again.

Water you absorb from the air? Are you serious? We lose a couple litres a day in the moisture expelled in our breath through normal breathing alone.

You seem to have quite an unhealthy habit there. Make an effort to cut out the caffeine and drink more real water.

IF YOUR BODY REJECTS WATER THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH YOU. SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION, CLEAR ENOUGH FOR YOU?

I think I'll go and bang my head against a wall now.

your soda the likes of cola ect contains salt that's where the fizz comes from and this is what is causing you to be dehydrated long term it can cause kidney damage
