Does it sound like I have the flu?!

Question: Ever since Christmas Eve I haven't been feeling like myself. It started Thursday, in the morning for three hours I felt nauseated and at night. This happened for three more days.

Yesterday at night I had a feeling in my throat like you get after you throw up. I got sick around 10:30 at night and threw up, and after that I felt ok, just upset stomach and nauseated. I have no fever, but my temperature is higher than normal. [99.5] I've been pretty tired lately as well. I've been cold as well all of the time, sometimes I catch myself shivering, but again, fever doesn't play into it.

My upper stomach is what is upset [I assumed that was from throwing up]. I've had this exact thing for about 4 days, today is the 5th.

Could this be the flu or something else? The whole 3 hours in the morning thing sounds like morning sickness, but trust me it's not possible. The doctor opens on Wednesday so I am wondering if I should get checked out.

It sounds like a bacteria or virus probably acquired from something you ate that was poorly cooked or kept out for too long. In order to make sure you don't end up in the ER have plenty of water and no juice (sugar dehydrates you). Put yourself on what is called a Full Liquid Diet in the hospital. This would include grits and soup mainly. Crackers and ginger ale will help with the nausea, and take only small sips of anything you do drink.... and I mean small. Try to take Tylenol if you are not allergic for the fever and muscle aches, as it usually will not mess with your stomach as Ibuprofen or any other NSAID medication will mess with your stomach. Please read the medication label carefully and do not exceed 3000 mg of Tylenol in one day.
Bacteria and viruses will cause you to be sick depending on how long it takes for that particular virus or bacteria to duplicate. So one stomach flu could be 24 hours long, and another a week. It is a good idea to go to the doctor, and it is most likely not pregnancy because of the low grade fever.

Ask yourself what you ate the meal before you first got sick, because you said that that your upper stomach is what is mainly affected is another reason why it is probably a virus. There is more normal bacterial flora in the small and large intestines and that is why it hasn't traveled yet. But chances are it will have to work itself out that way.

So again---Full Liquid Diet and lots of small sips of water.

My SO had weird symptoms overthe holiday. Chills, fever, vomitting, aches and malaise. We ended up at the ER. The doc said it was a 'virus' going around. Be sure to drink a LOT of water and fluids. Try not to stay motionless and prolly wouldn't hurt to see your doc Wed.

Hope you feel better!

With stomach problems there is no real way for someone to know what you have except a docter. So yes I would suggest paying a visit. In the mean time go over what you have ate...did you eat something that was over the experation date? If you have not eaten anything, try getting down crackers, broth, or toast something easy to handle. Also try to sip water or ginger ale, you might be depriveing your body of fludids if you are vomiting. Yoe can also try a hot water bottle on your tummy or a heating pad, or have someone gently rub your tummy. It is the hardest thing to do when you have an upset stomach but try to relax and sleep, your body needs it so it can try and fix you and boost you immune system.Take a few deep breaths. It might be the stomach flu. Stay warm even if you feel hot, and do nnot leave your house until you are feeling better (except if you go to the docter). Also you can try some medication.

Hope i could help! Feel better soon! happy new year!
