Assuming that routine investigations like blood tests, chest xray and upper abdominal sonography don't show any abnormality, it may be musculoskeletal pain or neuralgia.Using thick pillow or sleeping with neck in an uncomfortable position may cause it. Pay attention to these factors.
Good luck!

cracked rib would be my guess or radiatin nerve pain from your back

i would say fractured rib. did you do some sort of sport or physicall activity recently?? You should see a doc.

If your sharp pains come and go in the upper body, it could mean you are out of shape.

Then again, you believe it is "paralyzing." Therefore, it must be a little more serious than that. Unless, that was a broad generalization. If that is the case, I suggest exercising more frequently.

could be a lot of gas formation.

Sharp pains on left lower rib cage might be due to some blunt trauma. You might have hit against something and strain the muscle. Or it might be a cracked rib with a linear fracture. Too much lifting weights?

Sounds like pleurisy, which is inflammation of the lining around the lung. Not serious, just happens sometimes. Take some ibuprophen or other antiinflammatory. If it doesn't go away with that in a few days, or you develop a fever, go to the doctor.
