Infected Toe!?!

Question: OK, so I have horrible problems with ingrown toenails. I get them all of the time. So far I have gotten one in every toe except my pinky toes. But yesterday I had just a little one and I dug in there trying to get it out. It bled a little bit, but then stopped. The pain was BAD, but I just thought it was sore. So I woke up this morning to find it not very swollen, but extremely painful. I tried to pull some of the skin back, but it hurt to bad. I stuck a kleenex between the skin and my nail and yellow sticky stuff came out, but just a little. It hurts soo bad I wanna cry! I have put hydrogen peroxide and anitbotic cream on it as well. And I put some iodine solution on it to. Please help!

Thank you!

Yup, you've got an infected toe, all right. That yellow gunk is pus. You need to soak it in some epsom salts (you can get a big box of the stuff at a drugstore for a couple of bucks). Make the water as warm as you can stand it, and put a cup or so of the salts in the water. Soak it until the water cools; do it at least twice a day. After you soak it, dry it. You may be able to get more pus out at that time, which would be good. Afterward, put Neosporin on the area (use ointment instead of the cream) and bandage it so as to cushion it. It WILL hurt at first - no question. If it seems to get worse instead of better, get to your doctor.

You might want to talk to your doctor about getting part of the nailbed "killed" so that this doesn't continue to occur. You'll be sore for a few days afterward, but then you won't have to deal with the problem again.

Good luck.

hot soaks as hot as you can stand, 6 times a day...may need a doc to cut it.

that stuff was just a puss pocket

i forget what the name really is and why they are caused

all i know is that i got one on my big toe once
but i get them every now and then on ringer fingers
i would think im getting a in grown nail and id squeeze it then...

puss comes out
its just a irritation of the skin that causes the puss

Smart move with peroxide I use it a lot for skin infections!
This time last year I had a 1/4 of my big toe nail removed to stop it from digging in it worked well
So far you seem to be doing the ok things but its now indicating a infection so off to the GP you go
